Speaking at Lviv IT Arena in Lviv, Ukraine

I recently had the amazing opportunity to travel to Lviv, Ukraine to speak at the Lviv IT Arena conference. Speaking internationally in a country I had never traveled to and experiencing the discomfort of not understanding the languages and culture made for a very memorable trip. I met some wonderful people and formed some hopefully lasting networking and collaboration relationships.

I don’t have all the answers…and it’s ok!

Coming up on Agile2015 is hitting me right in the feels. This will be my fourth Agile Alliance conference, my fourth job in as many years (actually fifth), my second time presenting at an Agile Alliance conference, my second time presenting in Washington D.C., and my first time really feeling like I have no idea what I’m doing.

Women in Agile Research Project – Help Needed! Men welcome, too!

As some of you know, I am completing my Master of Art in Organizational Leadership concentrating in Strategic Management this semester. As part of my graduation requirements, I need to complete a leadership action project. I chose a project to understand why women are less involved in the Agile community than men.

I conducted interviews with seven women to discuss the issue and based on their responses came up with some key themes. I am using a survey to validate these themes and potentially gather new themes around why people are involved and why women are less involved. You can help by taking the survey and passing it on to your Agile counterparts. Men’s input is welcome, too!

The Dos and Don’ts of Conference Attendance – Retrospective on Agile2014 in Orlando, FL

Agile2014 marks another Agile conference this year. As usual it did not disappoint. This year was extra special because I was able to be a reviewer for the Collaboration, Culture and Teams session track and was also selected to present my session on the UX Runway. It was great to once again catch up with old friends and meet new ones; even some from my home state of Minnesota! Some Women in Agile also got together for an impromptu session in the Open Jam area and though I was not able to make it, I heard great things! After attending many conferences over the past few years I wanted to make a list of some of the things I’ve learned for how to get the most out of your time there.

Co-presentation with Leslie J. Morse at SGNOLA – advice and retrospective

I spent the beginning of this week at the Scrum Gathering – New Orleans (SGNOLA). As always, it proved to be a great time full of culture, learning, networking, and fun. I like to do recaps after conferences sometimes: first to ensure that I don’t lose what I captured, and second to share my thoughts with those who were unable to attend. The highlight of SGNOLA was my co-presentation with Leslie J. Morse: Can Definition of Ready make Scrum “The Big Easy?”
